Week 03
WEEKLY LECTURE | 18-20 JANUARY 2021
This weeks lecture's topic would be risk and protocol. In the process of our project, there would be some guidance for ethical approval on activities that involves human participants that we would need to follow.
All students are required to obtain ethical approval before carrying out any research that involved human participants. For example survey work, questionnaires, interviews, focus groups or case studies involving human participants. To ensures our safe study, we would need to methods and outlines our ethics applications when carrying out project work. (CU General Regulations, Appendix 2: Health and Safety)
Besides that, we have also learnt how to create user persona and user stories from analysing data from our questionnaire. It is important to know your target audience before you start creating a project. This will help you on how to improve your project idea base on the target audience.
Workshop (UI/UX)
In the afternoon, we have a workshop on UI/UX (user experience design process and user interaction design). This workshop is to let us understand the process of understanding the impact of design on an audience.
First of all, the design workflow steps are:
1. Research
- Research on the project objective, the purpose of the project and what is the problem it faces?
- User Research of demographic and psychographic
- Competitor Analysis
2. Analysis
- User Persona and User Stories
- User Scenario and User Flow
- Information Architecture
- Functional Requirement
- Content Requirement
3. Design
- Wireframes
- User Interface and Prototypes
There are two types of research methods that are, using a questionnaire or Interviews to help in gathering information. In my research method, I have used questionnaires to help gather a large amount of information. Using google form to create the survey and I have posted out through social media and receive quite a number of responses in minutes. This would be able to help avoid direct in contact with the respondents as the pandemic is getting worse.
A user persona would be able to help us understand the behaviours, attitudes, needs, challenges, goals and motivations towards our projects. User stories are to understand who the user is, what they need, and why they need it. It is a short statement that identifies the user and their goal. (Personas - User Focused Design, 2021) After that, we had also learned about the user scenarios before moving on to the user flow. User scenarios is a story base on the user stories, it is to carry out the goal of the persona. It is used to provide a picture of the intended user experience, but can equally outline what currently happens. (Scenario-Based Design, 2021)
Next, we had also gone through the user flow process, sequential structures, hierarchical structures, matrix structures, and labelling systems. In the process, I felt that it is quite interesting to have learnt UI/UX from the beginning as this would help me in the future of creating my own interface.
Throughout this workshop, I have understood the whole process of UI/UX. It helps me to design an interface to helps the user to get to its goals. There is quite a lot of steps that are needed to go through and understand to create a better interface. It is not easy to create an interface as it needed time to understand the product's target audience.
In this week, I have collected 60 respondent on the questionnaire through the social media platform. After I have collected the data, I started to analyses my target audience. It seems that there are 39 female and 21 male have answered my questionnaire. It is quite interesting as there are a variety age and occupation of people to have a different kind of perception on answering the questionnaire. After I have done collecting the questionnaire, I would start doing the user persona and user stories.
Questionnaire analyses

The majority of the respondent had answered yes on the question "Do you think colour affects your choice of food?". This created an impact on my project which I could target the environment of creating a food festival. Base on the respondent I would have to list out the key point to improve my project.
In conclusion, there seems to have a lot of respondents that are interested in exploring the colour blindness world. They would like to understand more about the colour blindness and how they live their life. I would need to do more research on the where can I let the audience to explore the colour blindness world in a fun way of using the media platform.
User persona & User stories
The user persona and user stories are base on the questionnaire respondent. Each user persona has its own characteristic, goals and frustrations. Goals are where they would want to achieve from their lifestyle and for frustrations is what they had come across.

After some changes from the lecture comment, I have a better understanding of my user persona and user stories.
Risk and protocol form
The risk form is to identify if there is any risk involved during the project research. This is to prevent risk and produce a successful and safe outcome.
The protocol form is for us to practice on describing the step by step of the activities which is generally followed in sequence. In order to plan the steps appropriately and to manage lesser risks during the project process. The advantages of this practice are we would be able to manage our time according to the steps.
In conclusion, this whole process gives me a better understanding of the whole project time management.
